I’ve been using Gmail back when it was by invite only; something I’m proud of. As time has passed Google has added great features and tools to improve Gmail that have made it too cluttered for me.
I’ve been a Firefox user for years and used extensions to create a minimalist look to the Gmail interface. These days I’ve switched over to Goggles’ Chrome as my default browser.
If you’re going to surf the web nothing is faster or minimalistic out of the box than Google’s’ chrome. Naturally I needed to get back to my beloved minimalist Gmail setup with my new shinny browser.
I recommend using Matt Constantine minimalist Gmail extension. It is by far the best one out there.
Check out my 2 minute video below for a complete walk through.
P.S. Don’t forget to buy Matt a beer!

Weird. I consider myself an minimalist, but use Gmail at work, so may of the link/features are also handy. I wish I needed need all the extras…maybe I just need a new job to make all this work.
Love the demo!! Your website makes cleaning up my computer seem so easy with you instructional videos and suggestions on how to fix problems. Look forward to future blogs.
This was way too easy..and looks awesome.
Thanks Again
Very useful info! I’m here staring at my way-cluttered Firefox browser, with its ten different toolbars and buttons galore, and I do think it’s time for a clean-up. You convinced me to give Chrome a shot, and to minimal-ize my gmail in the process. Thanks!
